Maintenance Tips for Double Row Ball Bearings

Double Row Ball Bearings are widely used in industrial equipment, automobiles, motors, and other fields due to their high load capacity, excellent self-aligning performance, and stability. Proper maintenance can significantly extend bearing life and reduce failures. The following are key maintenance points:

1.Daily Maintenance and Inspection

Regular Lubrication

Lubricant Selection:

Select an appropriate grease (such as lithium-based grease or polyurea grease) or oil based on the operating conditions.

For high-temperature environments, use a high-temperature resistant grease (such as a synthetic oil-based grease).

Lubrication Interval:

Generally, relubricate every 3-6 months of operation (refer to the equipment manual for details).

Reduced lubrication intervals are required for high-speed or high-temperature operating conditions.

Lubrication Method:

After cleaning the grease nozzle, use a dedicated grease gun to slowly grease, avoiding overfilling (old grease should be expelled from the seal).

Temperature Monitoring

During normal operation, the bearing temperature should be ≤70°C (can be briefly touched). Abnormal temperature rise may be due to oil shortage, overload, or improper installation, requiring machine shutdown and inspection.

Vibration and Noise Testing

Use a vibration meter or stinger to inspect. Abnormal noise (such as metal-to-metal friction) may indicate:

Damage to the raceway

Deformation of the retaining cage

Important intrusion

2.Disassembly and Cleaning

Disassembly Precautions

Use a dedicated puller and avoid striking the bearing directly!

Record the bearing installation orientation (double-row bearings usually have alignment marks).

Cleaning Procedures

Preliminary Decontamination: Remove surface sludge with a soft cloth or brush.

Solvent Cleaning: Soak the bearing in kerosene or bearing cleaner and gently brush the raceways and balls.

Drying: Blow dry with compressed air (do not rotate the bearing at high speeds), then apply anti-rust oil.

Do Not:

Rinse with water or acidic detergents!

Scrape the raceways with hard objects such as steel wool.

Installation Tips

Alignment: Ensure the shaft and bearing seat are concentric (deviation ≤ 0.05mm). Fit Tolerance: The inner ring and shaft typically have an interference fit (heated installation), while a slight clearance is allowed between the outer ring and the housing.

Seal Inspection: Replace any worn seals to prevent dust and moisture intrusion.

3. Long-Term Storage Recommendations:

Apply anti-rust oil, seal the packaging, and store in a dry environment (humidity <50%).

Manually rotate the bearing every six months to prevent localized rust on the raceway.
